CETT Smart Tourism Congress

The Sustainable Tourism Community is organizing "Smart tourism tools in the Mediterranean destinations" workshop, at the “CETT Smart Tourism Congress” on 11st and 12nd of November, 2020.

On 11st November the Sustainable Tourism Community will participate in “CETT Smart Tourism Congress” in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain), an international congress gathering academics and professionals, focusing on innovation, sustainability, technology and governance, organised by CETT - Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy.

To represent different voices of the tourism sector, the Smart Tourism Congress will dedicate full sessions to the three main actors: Professional Day, Entrepreneurs Day and Academic Day (on 12nd November 2020). The Sustainable Tourism Community will intervene at the Professional Day 11st November from 9h to 14h, DIBA - Barcelona Provincial Council, as lead partner of the Community, will present “Smart tourism tools in the Mediterranean destinations” (from 09h45 to 10h30) developed by our territorial cooperation projects such as: Tools for tourism flows regulation; Governance and efficiency in tourism; Generating knowledge for decision making; Big Data and Open Data.

CETT Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona is an international meeting place for all those academics and professionals who want to improve and share their knowledge about Smart Tourism. This congress, celebrated in the city of Barcelona, is focused on innovation, sustainability, technology and governance and is organized by the Chair UB of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy CETT.

Goals of the CETT Congress:

To generate a meeting space where the Smart Tourism phenomenon is analyzed thanks to the participation of different international experts.

To articulate synergies capable of drawing the future of intelligent tourism and defining its trends from all possible perspectives.

To provide expert knowledge and practical solutions from academic and professional sources of international relevance to the tourism sector.

To encourage reflection on the improvement of the management of the tourism phenomenon to Catalan universities, positioning itself as a platform for transferring knowledge of the tourism sector at the Catalan level.

The congress main topics are Smart Management in Tourism and Digitalization in Enterprises and Tourism Destinations.


Beyond a purely technological perspective, tourism management is understood as the need to find the balance and connection between data and knowledge generation for decision-making. The above means that organizations and destinations must work to be committed to their citizens, be able to manage tourism flows and resources of a given destination in a sustainable way and integrate and make accessible their local culture to visitors, whilst adding value to experiences and making sure that these activities have a positive effect on the local economy and the quality of life of the residents.

Volatility and fugacity are some features in our present time that must be analyzed looking into the future too. This ever-changing context, characterized by drawbacks such as disruption, forces business to re-design constantly their practices and strive to understand the relationships between companies and destinations with their customers and visitors.
