On 12th July 2021, a national conference promoted by the Interreg Med Sustainable tourism project will be held from 2.30 pm to 5 pm, on the topic "Creating value with sustainable tourism: the challenge of the Italian regions".
The theme of sustainable tourism will be at the center of this conference organized by the AIE (Adriatic Ionian Euroregion), within the Interreg MED Sustainable Tourism project, with the support and collaboration of the Emilia-Romagna Region. The recipients of the conference are mainly those in charge of ERDF programming, tourism policies planning, and European projects of the Italian regions.
Why a national debate on sustainable tourism?
Tourism, severely damaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, remains one of the cornerstones of the economy of the Mediterranean countries and in particular of Italy. The economic and social recovery must necessarily involve the recovery of the tourism sector, which in turn is called upon to innovate in a sustainable way.
During the event, an overview of the opportunities that the new European programming offers to those who want to focus on sustainable tourism will be shown. But the goal is also to stimulate a discussion between the representatives of some of the main Interreg programs that concern Italy and the representatives of the Italian regions to understand how demanding, and at the same time important, is trying to coordinate territorial policies on tourism with the expectations of the European programs and of the managing authorities to capitalize in the best possible way the innovative potential of European projects.
A round table, and the following debate, on the topic "The added value of Interreg projects in regional tourism planning" will be coordinated by Ruben Sacerdoti, Head of the Business Internationalization and FDI Attraction Department of Emilia-Romagna Region with the participation of representatives of the Interreg MED program, of the Adrion program, and of Veneto, Tuscany and Lazio regions.
The conclusions of the conference will be drawn by Andrea Corsini, Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Infrastructure, Tourism, Commerce of Emilia-Romagna Region.
