Pathway ecological restoration in an INHERITURA area (Malta)

Pathway ecological restoration at Il-Majjistral Nature & History Park includes the closing of various pathways to vehicular access by placing of boulders.

The boulders are sourced from a formation of upper coralline limestone so as not to introduce different geological materials. It is envisaged that most of these boulders will be removed once the vegetation is restored and whenever trampling risks are resolved permanently. Boulders will be placed in such a way as to ensure pedestrian, trekking, cycling and equestrian passage.

Other restoration activities have taken place in the area, for example, the local stakeholders at Malta’s Golden Bay have removed of an old telephone box located at the entrance to the beach. This unit had become an eyesore and had not been used for a number of years. Golden Bay forms part of Il-Majjistral Nature & History Park.

Il-Majjistral Nature & History Park is the candidate INHERITURA area of our partner MRDDF from Malta.
